Opal Conger

Opal Conger, age 87, of Aurora died Thursday evening, October 18, 2001, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday at the First Christian Church in Aurora. Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Family will receive friends between 6-8 P.M. Memorials may be made to the First Christian Church. OBITUARY: OPAL CONGER

Opal Lurena Conger, the daughter of Earl and Alice L. (Sims) Funkhouser was born on the "Old Ivory Ranch" south of Kimball, Nebraska on January 9, 1914 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on October 18, 2001, at the age of 87 years.

The family moved around in western Nebraska and eastern Colorado until they returned to Hamilton County in 1926, moving to Marquette in January 1927. Opal attended many grade schools and graduated from Marquette High School in 1931. She attended York College, graduating with a business degree in 1932.

Opal was united in marriage to Lynn A. Conger on October 25, 1936. They made their home in Aurora after that. Four children were born to this union: Janet, Donna, Jack and Sharon. Opal worked as a secretary for Chas. Martin, Martin & Jones and then for the Jones Agency, a total of 24 years before retiring in 1976. Opal and her husband traveled a lot after retiring and enjoyed seeing the country. Opal and Lynn celebrated their 60th anniversary on October 25, 1996. Lynn passed away November 24, 1997.

Opal was a long time member of the First Christian Church, where she sang in the choir for over 20 years. She was chairperson of CWF, Circle chairperson and held many Circle and CWF offices over the years. Opal served as Sunday School superintendent and on other church committees during the years.

She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and great-granddaughter, Kelsey Lynn Belitz.

Opal is survived by her one son, Jack and his wife Donna of Overland Park, Kansas three daughters, Janet Belitz and her husband Ron of Central City, Donna Fowler and Sharon Ingram and her husband Ronald of Omaha; 9 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
