Merle Dieckman

Merle Dieckman, age 85, of Grand Island, died Friday morning, August 2, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 5th at the First Christian Church in Aurora. Rev. Ken McQueen will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: MERLE DIECKMAN

Merle William Dieckman, the son of Herman H. and Winifred M. (Hosier) Dieckman, was born in Harvard, Nebraska on May 13, 1917 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on August 2, 2002, at the age of 85 years.

Merle grew up northwest of Giltner and attended rural country school and Giltner High School.

Merle was united in marriage to Eleanor M. Lindquist on January 7, 1937 at Grand Island. They farmed until 1960, they then moved to Murphy where he was an employee of the Coop elevator for 20 years. They moved to Aurora into 1970 and retired in 1980. In February 1999, they moved to Riverside Lodge in Grand Island.

Merle was a member of the First Christian Church in Aurora.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Lyle and Max Dieckman.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Eleanor of Grand Island; two daughters, Barbara Etter of Monument, Colorado and Bonnie Rudy and her husband Garry of Aurora; a son, Dennis Dieckman and his wife Kathy of Grand Island; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren. He is also survived a brother, Glenn Dieckman of Aurora and a sister, Maxine Gimpel and her husband Wayne of Wheatland, Wyoming.
