Helen Garris

Helen Garris, age 71, of Aurora died Sunday, February 24, 2002, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Thursday, February 28th at the Chapel of Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary.

OBITUARY: HELEN GARRIS

Helen Louise Garris, the daughter of Henry and Opal (Rawlings) Schneider, was born in Nebraska City, Nebraska on November 15, 1930 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on February 24, 2002, at the age of 71 years.

She grew up in Nebraska City and attended school there.

Helen was united in marriage to Robert Joseph Garris on September 6, 1948, at Lincoln. In 1953, they moved to Aurora, where Bob was plant manager for the Phillips Petroleum Company. Robert passed away on July 4, 1993.

Helen was a member of the Nebraska City Alumni Foundation. She enjoyed gardening, interior decorating, reading and music. Helen also enjoyed shopping with her daughters and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her father, step-father, George Billingsley; her brother, Mark Schneider and half-sister, Paula Billingsley.

Helen is survived by her four children, Pat Garris of Grand Island, JoLynn Brown and her husband David of Lincoln, Kristy Wittler and her husband Neal of Hoskins and Debbie Wright and her husband Wes of Lincoln; 3 grandchildren, Scott, Stacy and Susan Wittler of Hoskins; a step-granddaughter, Jenna Garrow of Lincoln; mother, Opal Billingsley of Nebraska City; a sister, Susie Shull and her husband John of Riverton, Iowa; a half-sister, Nora Barrett of Lincoln; sister-in-laws, Verona Bolen of Bolivar, Missouri, Juanita Miller and her husband George of New Market, Virginia and Yvonne Berthold and her husband Walter of Grand Island and cousins, nieces and nephews.
