Leon Harter
Leon Harter, age 92, of Aurora, died Saturday morning, June 29, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, July 2, 2002 at the United Methodist Church in Aurora. Rev. Seth Leypoldt will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: LEON HARTER Leon Nelson Harter, the son of Jacob John and Ida Viola (Willcock) Harter, was born in Stockham, Nebraska on December 21, 1909 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on June 29, 2002, at the age of 92 years. He grew up in Stockham and graduate from Stockham High School. After high school Leon began farming Leon was united in marriage to Frances Helen George on June 6, 1933 at her parent's farm. Leon continued farming near Stockham and Aurora. He became custodian at the Aurora High School serving there 20 years, most of those as head custodian. Leon retired and then became custodian at the United Methodist Church, retiring in 1989 after serving 15 years. Frances passed away in 1981. Leon was very active in Prairie Gem EUB Church, Otterbein United Bretheran Church and also with United Methodist Church, once the two united. He was a faithful member of the Aurora Lions Club as long as his health allowed. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife and two sisters, Violet Buller and Esther Smith, 1 infant daughter. Those left to cherish his memory are his three children, Janis Arnold and her husband Deryl of Aurora; Kenneth Harter and his wife Dorothy of Aurora and Sharon Nunnenkamp and her husband Robert of Aurora; 11 grandchildren, and 22 great grandchildren. |
