Donald Humphrey
Donald 'Ski' Humphrey, age 82, of Giltner, died Monday night, February 25, 2002 at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday at the United Methodist Church in Giltner. Rev. Nora Leeds and Rev. Jim Johnson will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery near Giltner. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. OBITUARY: DONALD HUMPHREY Donald Everett Humphrey, the son of Harvey and Grace (Hangar) Humphrey, was born on the family farm south of Giltner, Nebraska on April 23, 1919 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on February 25, 2002, at the age of 82 years. He grew up on family farm and attended Giltner School. Donald served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. His love for flying continued throughout his life. Donald was united in marriage to Virginia Elaine Nelson on August 28, 1948 at Hastings. They lived on a farm south of Giltner, where they raised their five children. Virginia passed away on May 29, 2001. He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Giltner, the Keystone Masonic Lodge #62 of Phillips, the Greenwood Club and the American Legion Post #300 of Doniphan. Ski enjoyed his family, his violin and bowling with his friends. Donald was preceded in death by his parents, wife, three brothers, Paul and Harold Humprey and an infant brother, Wesley; and son-in-law, Lt. Col. William C. Hutchison. Donald is survived by his five children, Shirley Hutchison of Omaha, Harvey Humphrey of Giltner, Loren Humphrey and his wife Cindy of Grand Island, Allen Humphrey and his wife Ielene of Giltner and Holly Brooks of Doniphan;15 grandchildren; a sister, Florence Campbell and her husband Murray of El Paso, Texas and sister-in-law, Devonne Humphrey of Aurora. |
