Dennis Meismer
Dennis Meismer, age 90, formerly of Aurora, died Saturday, April 27, 2002, in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Wednesday at the First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island. Rev. Raymond Schroeder will officiate. Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery at 2:00 P.M. Family greeting friends from 6 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to the First Presbyterian Church of Grand Island, Tabitha Hospice of Grand Island and the Presbyterian U.C.C. Church of Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: DENNIS MEISMER Dennis LeVerne Meismer, the son of Adam and Adeline V. (Vetter) Meismer, was born on a farm south of Murphy in Hamilton County, Nebraska on April 5, 1912 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on April 27, 2002, at the age of 90 years. He grew up on a farm in Hamilton County and graduated from Aurora High School in 1930. Dennis was united in marriage to Phyllis Zehr on April 28, 1940 at her parent's home. He was a wheat and corn farmer and raised and fed cattle for 40 years. Dennis retired from farming in 1976. They moved to Aurora in 1977 and then in 1990 they moved to Grand Island. Dennis was active in the Presbyterian U.C.C. Church in Aurora. He was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Grand Island and when his health permitted he liked to participate in church activities. Dennis loved to play cards with family and friends and enjoyed his family at all times. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two sisters, Mary Katherine Meismer and Berdnadine Herman; a brother, Norbert Meismer, a sister-in-law and two brother-in-laws. Dennis was survived by his wife Phyllis of Grand Island; three daughters, Adeline Yerkes and her husband Michael of Edmond, Oklahoma, Linda Pharoah and her husband Harold of Omaha and Penny Vollbracht and her husband David of Columbus; 7 grandchildren, David Yerkes of Dallas, Texas, Christopher Alcorn and Heather Alcorn both of Lincoln and Andrea Alcorn of Bend, Oregon, Amy Vollbracht Reeves of New York, New York, Holly Vollbracht of Phoenix, Arizona and Jeffrey Vollbracht of Columbus; two great-grandsons; a sister, Marjorie Winzenried of Bakersfield, California and many cousins and friends. |
