Herbert Ross
Herbert E. Ross, age 91, died Friday evening, May 24, 2002,at Bryan/LGH Medical Center in Lincoln. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Wednesday, May 29th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. Joe Scahill will officiate. Interment will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the United Methodist Church of Aurora. OBITUARY: HERBERT ROSS Herbert Eugene Ross, the son of Henry and Katherine Elizabeth (Brehm) Ross, Jr., was born on a farm west of Stockham, Nebraska on June 1, 1910 and died in Lincoln, Nebraska on May 24, 2002, at the age of 91. Ross was the last survivor of 15 brothers and sisters. He graduated from Stockham High School in 1928 and went on to graduate from Lincoln Barber School in 1933. Herb was united in marriage to Gladys Nickolaus on January 24, 1935 in Aurora. In 1934, Herb began barbering in Aurora and was an owner of Ross Barber Shop for 45 years. During that time he also operated a barbershop in Marquette. Herb served on the Aurora City Council for two terms. He was a long-time member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce. He was also a member of the United Methodist Church and was an usher and served on many committees at the church. Herb was a master woodworker and enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing. He was preceded in death by his parents and 14 brothers and sisters. Herb was survived by his wife, Gladys of Aurora; one daughter, Yvonne Haun and her husband Norman of Boulder, Colorado; two sons, Murray Ross and his wife Dianne of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and Dennis Ross and his wife Ann of Wichita, Kansas; 7 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren. |
