Phyllis Vettel

Phyllis Vettel, age 61, of Aurora died Wednesday afternoon, July 3, 2002, at St. Francis Hospital in Grand Island.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Saturday, July 6th at Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Hartington. Fr. John Pietramale will officiate. Interment will be in the St. Michael's Cemetery in Hartington. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Friday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora, with the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. OBITUARY: PHYLLIS VETTEL

Phyllis Marie Vettel, the daughter of Elmo and Florence (Koch) Dreesen, was born in Hartington, Nebraska on October 10, 1940 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on July 3, 2002, at the age of 61.

She grew up on the family farm near Hartington, where she helped her father with many farming chores. After her father passed away the family moved into Hartington, where Phyllis attended school.

Phyllis was married to Raymond Vettel and spent the majority of her life in Aurora raising her children. She drove a school bus for the Aurora School District for 12 years. She worked and managed many restaurants in the Aurora area over the years. Phyllis enjoyed meeting and visiting with her customers.

Phyllis enjoyed reading books and sewing, but her first love was her family. She loved to attend family get togethers, be it a picnic, ball game or school program.

She was preceded in death by her parents, infant son John, granddaughter Tessa and two brothers, Robert (Bobby) and Richard (Dickey) Dreesen.

Those left to cherish her memories are her five children, David Vettel and his wife Crystal of Mount Zion, Illinois, Raymond (Lou) Vettel and his wife Shari of Aurora, Dr. Kenny Vettel and his wife Dana of Phillips, Mike Vettel and his wife Ann of Aurora and Rebecca Schaffert and special friend Gary Jones of Hickman; 12 grandchildren, Todd Vettel of Camp Pendleton, California, Timothy and Trevor Vettel of Mount Zion, Illinois, Jacki and Joshua Vettel of Aurora, Jessica and Tyler Vettel of Phillips, Dalton, Bailey and Hunter Vettel of Aurora and Vincent and Jordan Schaffert of Hickman. Phyllis is also survived by one brother, Edwin Dreesen of Irene, South Dakota; 8 sisters, Lorranie Harbeck of Lawndale, CA, Bernadine Davis of Ponca, Mrs. Stephen (Marlene) Kalin of Coleridge, Mrs. Mary (Charles) Young of Jackson, Mrs. Alan (Helen) Heikes of Wayne, Mrs. Roger (Karen) Arndt of Spencer, IA, Mrs. Lonnie (Linda) Schrempp of Yankton, SD, Mrs. James (Janice) Tuttle of Hartington and many nieces and nephews.
