Nina Anderson

Nina Anderson, age 92, of Aurora, (formerly of Marquette), passed away Monday, April 2, 2012, at her home.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, April 5th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 - 8 P.M. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: NINA ANDERSON

Nina Leona Anderson, the daughter of Carl and Stena (Djernes) Hansen, was born on February 7, 1920, at Marquette, Nebraska and passed away in Aurora, Nebraska on April 2, 2012, at the age of 92.

Nina attended 1st & 2nd grade in Hordville, then moved to the Marquette area, where she attended School District 100 & 89. She graduated from Marquette High School Class of 1938. After graduation, Nina did domestic work locally and in Iowa and Colorado.

Nina married Virgil Anderson on June 30, 1943 at Fredrick, Oklahoma. They moved to Marquette in July 1945. In 1978, Nina took a correspondence course to be certified as a Class 4 Water Operator. She worked in the Marquette Post Office as a part-time postal clerk for 19 years and was the Marquette Village Clerk for 32 years. Virgil passed away on May 12, 2003.

Nina was a member of the EUB Church in Marquette, where she taught Sunday School and Bible School. She was a member of the Marquette Lioness Club for 9 years and the Hordville Lion’s Club since 1995. Nina and Virgil were the first husband/wife team to be certified by the NWPCA (Nebraska Water Pollution Control Assoc.) & NSAWWA (Nebraska State Water Works Assoc.) in 1972.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband; son, Steven and a brother, Dean Hansen.

Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Judy (Wilson) Dukes of Lexington and Emily (Tom) Mersch of Aurora; 5 grandchildren, Wilson Dukes, Matthew Dukes both of Lexington, Michael (Cammi) Dukes of Elwood, William (Kerilyn) Mersch of Aurora and Jennifer (Matt) Snoberger of Hampton; 10 great-grandchildren, Ashley Dukes of Lexington, Michaela Dukes, Gennie & Gage Crowell of Elwood, Kelsey, Kylie & Kiersten Mersch of Aurora and Jackson, Emma & Samuel Snoberger of Hampton; great-great grandson, Mycah Dukes; sister, Doris Plummer of Central City; sister-in-law, Myrtle Buller of Aurora and several nieces & nephews.
