Stacey BarkerFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Friday, March 28, 1986 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Evergreen Cemetery in Superior, Nebraska. OBITUARY: Stacey Barker Stacey Barker, the son of George and Mary (Mahaffey) Barker, was born at Ida Grove, Iowa, on February 23, 1901, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on March 25, 1986, at the age of 85 years, 1 month, and 2 days. As a young boy he moved to Lewellyn, Nebraska with his parents. After his father’s death in 1916, the family moved to Superior, Nebraska. He worked for a time on the Missouri Pacific Railroad. He was united in marriage to Rose E. Shaw of Mount Clare, Nebraska, on May 4, 1922, in Burr Oak, Kansas. He started working for Farmers Union Creamery in Superior on May 8, 1922. In 1943, he moved to Aurora and continued working for the Creamery until he retired in 1966. During that time he occupied various positions, including plant work, butter maker, plant foreman, and plant manager at the time of his retirement. He also designed and helped construct several buildings for Farmers Union. He owned and managed a laundromat and dry cleaning establishment in Aurora, and also owned and managed a machine shop in Aurora. After retirement he occupied his time with lapidary work. He belonged to the Hastings Rock Coub and helped organize the club as a charter member. Stacey was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents and his daughter, Barbara Jean Taylor, on June 29, 1979. 3 brothers, Ralph, Leo and Earl; sister, Lucy Groat. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Rose; a son-in-law, Leither Taylor of Seneca, Nebraska; 2 grandsons, Michael Taylor of Brownlee, Nebraska and Patrick Taylor of Mesa, Arizona; one brother, Everett Barker of Grove City, Minnesota; 3 sisters, Nora Hooker of Albany, Oregon, Madoline Harrison of Lincoln, Nebraska and Marjorie Sturgis of Caldwell, Idaho; a sister-in-law Alice Barker of Aurora, Colorado and nieces and nephews. He was a loving husband and father, with many close friends. |
