Bessie Baxa
Bessie Baxa, age 91, of Aurora died Saturday afternoon, October 11, 2003, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, October 14th at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. Fr. Craig Doty will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora, with the Rosary at 7:00 P.M. OBITUARY: BESSIE BAXA Bessie Elizabeth Baxa, the daughter of Frank and Mary (Sterba) Kasper, was born in Narka, Kansas on February 27, 1912 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on October 11, 2003, at the age of 91. She grew up in Narka, Kansas and attended Bethlehem School. Bessie was united in marriage to Ernest W. Baxa on September 29, 1937 at Belleville, Kansas. They farmed in Kansas after their marriage until 1959, then they moved to Nebraska. In 1967, they moved to Aurora. Bessie worked in the high school cafeteria, Larson's Bakery and at the Farm House Café on Hiway 34 for 14 years. Ernest passed away on July 9, 1982. Bessie enjoyed quilting, baking, bingo and craft classes at the community center. She was famous for her cinnamon rolls. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, daughter, Marilyn Chaney, great-grandson, two sisters and two brothers. Those left to cherish her memory are her two daughters, Lorene Ackerman of Abilene, Kansas, Evelyn Charbonneau and her husband Ernest of Concordia, Kansas and one son, Loren Baxa and his wife Margaret of Doniphan; 19 grandchildren and 45 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three sisters, Ollie Rytych of Belleville, Kansas, Lillian Novotny of Solon, Iowa and Blanche Kasper of Clyde, Kansas. |
