Benjamin & Mary Bell

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, November 2, 1983 at the Giltner United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Giltner Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Benjamin and Marie Bell

Benjamin A. Bell, the son of Cicero and Allie Spann Bell, was born at Sumerset, Kentucky on December 29, 1901. His death occurred at Giltner, Nebraska on October 30, 1983 at the age of 81 years, 10 months and 1 day.

In 1914 the family moved to a farm in Kansas. Here he graduated from the high school at Iona, Kansas and then attended Cotner College in Lincoln. He taught school for one year in Kansas before moving to Hamilton County, Nebraska in 1924.

On May 21, 1929 he was united in marriage to Luella Marie Dieckman at Norfolk, Nebraska. They farmed near Giltner until their retirement in 1966, when they built a new home in Giltner, where they have since resided.

Luella Marie Bell was born near Giltner, Nebraska on November 20, 1909, the daughter of William and Matilda Bloom Dieckman. Her death occurred at Aurora, Nebraska on October 30, 1983, a few hours after the death of her husband. She was 73 years, 11 months and 10 days of age. She attended the country school near her parents home and later graduated from Giltner High School. She taught in a rural school.

Mr. and Mrs. Bell were members of the Christian Church in Giltner until that church merged with the United Methodist Church in Giltner. They were active in church affairs. They were both members of the Senior Citizens in Giltner.

Ben was active in community affairs and had served on the School Board and the Co-op Elevator Board and the Church Board and served many years as Church Treasurer and was an active supporter of the Giltner Ball teams. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge No. 62 A.F. & A.M. in Phillips.

Marie was active in Church circles and community affairs and was a member of the Phillips Chapter No. 204 Order of the Eastern Star and was a Past Worthy Matron of the Star. She was also a member of the GGG Extension Club, the Greenwood Club, the Giltner Women’s Club, United Methodist Women and like her husband, was a supporter of Giltner Ball Teams.

Mr. and Mrs. Bell are survived by two daughters, Leola Bish and her husband Donald and Mary Ann Hinrichs and her husband Jerry, all of Giltner; seven grandchildren, Mike, Shelly, and Kerry Bish and Jeff, Joel, Jenny and Joni Hinrichs.

Mr. Bell is also survived by two brothers, Edward Bell of Aurora and Virgil Bell of Grand Island and two half brothers, Oren Bell of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma and William Vickery of Fairbury, Nebraska.

Mrs. Bell is also survived by one brother, Harold Dieckman of Aurora.

Also, there are other relatives and many friends who remain to cherish their memory.

Mr. and Mrs. Bell were preceded in death by their parents and an infant son, Roger Lee; one infant granson, their parents, two of his brothers, Frank and Stanley Bell and four of her brothers and sisters who died in infancy.
