Woodrow Berck

Woodrow Berck, age 91, of Marquette, died Friday, September 16, 2005, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Wednesday, September 21st at the Community Bible Church, 403 F Avenue, in Central City. Pastor Gilbert Larsen will officiate. Interment will be in the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Tuesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. OBITUARY: WOODROW BERCK

Woodrow John Fredrick Berck was born July 7, 1914 to Lyda (Kruse) and John Berck on a farm near Osceola, Nebraska. The family moved to Murphy where Woodrow attended District 4 school for six years. Later they moved to Marquette, where he graduated from high school in 1932. He started farming in 1933 and continued until 1966. Woodrow was united in marriage to Margaret Danhauer on December 10, 1936 by Rev. Charles Wantz at the Methodist parsonage in Marquette. He owned and operated the Grain Storage and lumberyard in Marquette for several years. Woodrow served on the Marquette Coop Board and the Marquette School Board. He worked at the Ordinance Plant, Gateway Realty and sold cars for a time.

Woodrow and his wife enjoyed fishing on area lakes and spent many hours with family and friends on Harlan County Reservoir in Republican City, Nebraska.

Woodrow accepted the Lord as his personal Savior as a young man and went on to teach Sunday school for 30 years. He led several Bible Studies throughout his life. He and his wife, Margaret, raised seven children under the instruction of the Lord. Woodrow continued to serve the Lord throughout his life. He was a member of Community Bible Church in Central City.

Woodrow is survived by his five children, Delores (David) Downs, Janet (Thomas) Schlender all of Raymond, Gary (Lorrie) Berck, Lanny Berck and Katherine (Doyle) Christenson all of Marquette; 17 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren; 2 great great-grandsons and two brothers, Linley Berck of Marquette and Jim (Marvel) Berck of Birmingham, Alabama.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, two sons and a daughter-in-law, Ronald and Joye Berck and Duane Berck; a great grandson, Justin Davis; five sisters, Mrs. Dwight (Lillian) Newcomer, Mrs. Al (Ethel) Schwarz, Mrs. Arild (Mamie) Erikson, Mrs. Harold (Myrtle) Anderson and Avis Berck and three brothers, Borden Berck, Vern Berck and Archie Berck.
