Lola BestFuneral Services were held 1:00 P.M., Wednesday, July 11, 1984 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Callaway, Nebraska. OBITUARY: Lola M. Best Lola Mae Best, the daughter of Chester and Ella Corcoran Smith, was born at Fr. Kearney, Nebraska, on May 8, 1904. Her death occurred at Aurora, Nebraska, on July 8, 1984, at the age of 80 years and 4 months. As a baby, her family moved to a ranch near Eddyville, Nebraska. They later moved into town, where she attended school. After graduation form high school, she attended Kearney State College. Following her college work, she taught school in Lodi, Nebraska for 3 years, Calloway for 2 years and in Broken Bow for 1 year. On June 2, 1927, she was untied in marriage to Seth A. Best at North Platte, Nebraska. The first years of their marriage they resided in Calloway, then moved to Broken Bow in 1936. In 1954 they moved to Phoenix, Arizona, where they resided for 5 years, and returned to Broken Bow in 1959. They were residing in Broken Bow at the time of her husband’s death on May 8, 1962. In 1964, she moved to Lincoln, Nebraska, where she was the House Mother for the Alpha Phi Sorority for seven years. In 1971 she moved to Aurora, where she has since resided. Mrs. Best was a member of the United Methodist Church in Aurora and was active in church affairs as long as her health permitted. Besides her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers and one sister. Those who remain to cherish her memory are three daughters, Mrs. Lee Moore of Wilmington, North Carolina, Mrs. Marva Gerlach of Aurora and Mrs. Barbara Messersmith of Lincoln, Nebraska; four sisters, Dorothy, Wanda, Mae and Lucille; 9 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren and other relatives and many close friends. |
