Polley Bignell

Funeral Services were held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, January 26, 1989 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Cedar Bluffs, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Polley Bignell

Polley Ann Bignell, the daughter of William and Susan (Grizzle) Bignell, was born at Coffeyville, Kansas on December 1, 1897, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska on January 23, 1989 at the age of 91 years, 1 month and 22 days.

She grew up on a farm near Morse Bluffs, Nebraska. She graduated from high school at North Bend, Nebraska and from Wesleyan College and received her Master’s degree from the University of Iowa.

Polley taught in various schools in Nebraska and Wyoming. In 1928-29 she taught the English language in China. She spent several years at McCook Junior College. Later she was state librarian in Jefferson City, Missouri for several years.

When she retired she moved to Oxford, Mississippi, and taught there part-time at the University of Mississippi. In 1983 she moved to Aurora, Nebraska to be near her sister. In 1985 when her health failed she moved to Hamilton Manor where she resided until her death.

Polley was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Verna Spoonhour.

Those remaining to cherish her memory are one brother, James Bignell of Bradenton, Florida; two sisters, Dorthea Morse of Oxford, Mississippi and Susie Johnson of Aurora, Nebraska; several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
