John Brittain, Sr.

Funeral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 13, 1979 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held at Giltner Cemetery.

OBITUARY: John T. Brittain, Sr.

John T. Brittain, Sr., the son of George and Mary Elizabeth Luttrell Brittain, was born at Joplin, Missouri on October 3, 1891. His death occurred at Omaha, Nebraska on August 10, 1979 at the age of 87 years 10 months and 7 days.

As a small boy, he moved with his parents to McCook, Nebraska, traveling by covered wagon. Lather the family moved to Central City, Nebraska, where he grew to manhood.

He was residing in Chappel, Nebraska, when he entered the United States Army on April 24, 1918, serving until his discharge on April 21, 1919. Following his discharge, he went to St. Paul, Nebraska.

In 1921 he was united in marriage to Ida Wissbaum at St. Paul. One son was born to them. His wife died in June of 1940.

Jack, as his friends knew him, had a trucking business in St. Paul and later worked for implement dealers in Grand Island.

On May 15, 1943 he was married to Ruth Iseburg at McCook, Nebraska. They resided in McCook for a short time and then returned to Grand Island. In 1949 they moved to Giltner, Nebraska, where they were residing at the time of his wife’s death on January 21, 1971. He has continued to reside in Giltner.

He was a member of the Lester S. Harter Post No. 42 of the American Legion in Aurora and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No 1347 in Grand Island.

Also, preceding him in death, were his parents; two sisters, Mrs. Clyde Mustard and Mrs. Hugh Schmoker; one brother, LeRoy and one Stepson, Bernard.

His survivors include one son, John T. Brittain, Jr. of Grand Island, Nebraska; six step daughters, Mrs. Dorothy Hamness of Lake Oswego, Oregon; Mrs. Margaret Beberniss of Doniphan; Mrs. Betty Butz of Auburn, California; Mrs. Elaine Herdt and Mrs. Barbara Eastman both of Giltner; Twenty five grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren and one sister, Mrs. Virgie Hammons of Central City, Nebraska; and other relatives and close friends.
