Dorothy BrownDorothy I. Silk Brown, age 80, of Aurora died Thursday afternoon, February 24, 2000, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 A.M., Monday at the Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings. Rev. Denny Silk will officiate. Interment will be in Hillside Cemetery in Wolbach, Nebraska at 3:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 Sunday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Memorials may be made to Grace United Methodist Church in Hastings or the Nebraska Chapter of the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society. OBITUARY: DOROTHY SILK BROWN Dorothy Irene Silk Brown, the daughter of Charles and Betty (Bower) Hurst, was born in Columbus, Nebraska on January 25, 1920 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on February 24, 2000, at the age of 80 years and 29 days. The family moved to the Wolbach area in 1929, where she graduated from Wolbach High School. Dorothy married Delmer T. Silk on April 4, 1938. Born to that marriage were Betty Lynn, Monte Tim, Denny Marland, and Ardyce DeEtte. They farmed east of Wolbach until her husband’s illness forced their move into Wolbach. During this time Dorothy commuted to Hastings College and also taught school in rural Howard County. Later the family moved to Hastings where Delmer died in November of 1956. Dorothy received her Bachelors Degree from Hastings College in 1960 and her Masters Degree from University of Nebraska in 1970. She taught in the Hastings Public Schools until health forced her retirement in 1972. Dorothy married Lloyd C. Brown in January of 1959. They made their home together in Hastings where Dorothy was also a long-time adult Sunday School teacher at Grace United Methodist Church. Lloyd died in June on 1982 and Dorothy soon after moved to the Wedgewood Care Center in Grand Island where she lived for 12 years. For the past 6 years she has lived at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. She was preceded in her death by her parents, infant twin sisters, Stella and Della; and husbands, Delmer T. Silk and Lloyd C. Brown. She is survived by her two daughters, Betty (C.J.) Marr of Doniphan and DeEtte (Michael) Brasfield of Aurora; two sons, Monte (Nancy) Silk of Bullhead City, Arizona and Denny Silk of Springfield, Nebraska. She is also survived by one step-daughter, Barbara Ericksen of Hobbs, NM; and three stepsons, Ronald (Imogene) Brown of San Antonio, TX, Wendell (Joyce) Brown of Newport Beach, CA, and Darrell (Woodie) Brown of Lincoln. Also survived by two sisters, Evelyn (Bernard) McIntyre of Wolbach and Doris Finney of Portland, OR. Further, she is survived by grandchildren, great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. |
