Elva Butler

Elva Butler, age 98, of Aurora, died Monday afternoon, July 19, 2004, at Memorial Hospital.

Graveside Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Friday, July 23rd at the Phillips Cemetery. Rev. Mark Dunham will officiate. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: ELVA MAE BUTLER

Elva Mae Butler, the daughter of Owen C. and Anna Belle (Kettenring) Walker, was born in Ionia, Kansas on May 17, 1906 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on July 19, 2004, at the age of 98 years.

She graduated from Phillips High School and attended the Grand Island Business School. Elva was honored as being the oldest living alumni of the Phillips High School.

Elva was united in marriage to Charles Britton Butler on September 13, 1924 in Mankato, Kansas. They had one son, Charles, Jr. They lived in rural Hamilton County until they moved to Aurora. Charles, Sr. died on April 14, 1994.

Elva was a homemaker and she worked for many years at Baehr's Red and White Super Market. For many years, Elva made Barbie doll clothes for many of the children in town; she made Scrubbies that she shared with many people in town; and she loved to play cards and visit with her many friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and two sisters.

Elva is survived by her son, Charles Butler, Jr. and his wife Vi of Aurora; two grandchildren, Ed Butler and his wife, Lois of Kearney and Pat Hudnall and her husband Mark of Walton; four great grandchildren, Eric Hudnall and his wife Delanie of Columbus, Melissa Chambers and her husband Chip of Vandenberg AFB, California, Christa and Brandon Polhemus of Kearney; and one great great-granddaughter, Madeline Hudnall of Columbus; many nieces and nephews and friends.
