Florence Campbell

Florence Campbell, age 88, of Giltner, died Saturday, January 16, 2010, at the Hamilton Manor.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M., Tuesday, January 19th at the Giltner United Methodist Church. Rev. Marta Wheeler will officiate. Interment will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Giltner. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association. OBITUARY: FLORENCE CAMPBELL

Florence Pauline (Humphrey) Crawford Campbell, the daughter of Harvey ‘Tom’ C. and Grace (Hanger) Humphrey, was born in Giltner, Nebraska on February 14, 1921 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on January 16, 2010, at the age of 88.

Florence grew up in Giltner and graduated from Giltner High School in 1937. She went on to graduate from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1942. Florence worked at the Nebraska School of the Blind for a short time.

During World War II Florence worked as a Lab Tech for the F.B.I. in Washington, D.C, and married John C. Crawford, Jr. She went on to work for the Comptroller’s Office for the U.S. Air Force at Biggs Air Force Base.

Florence was united in marriage to Thomas Murray Campbell on July 6, 1974. She worked at the Test Division of the U.S. Army Missile Command at Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas until she retired at the age of 70.

Florence was a member of the Giltner United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two children, John Coleman Crawford III and Carol Ann Crawford; three brothers, Harold, Paul and Donald E. ‘Skee’ Humphrey.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Murray Campbell of Aurora; daughter, Susan (James) Cook of Rockport, Texas; three grandchildren, Emily Craig, Elizabeth Field and James H. Cook; other family and friends.
