Mildred CartwrightFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, October 13, 1998 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Mildred Cartwright Mildred Elinor Cartwright, the daughter of Swan B. and Edith (Nordell) Nelson, was born on the family farm near Marquette, Nebraska, on February 5, 1923, and died at Grand Island, Nebraska, on October 9, 1998, at the age of 75 years, 8 months, and 4 days. She received her elementary education at Bluffs School southwest of Marquette, and attended High School at Sutherland, Nebraska. Later, the family moved to California, and in 1953, she and her husband Frank Sigona, and their family, returned to Nebraska. Frank preceded her in death on March 4, 1970. In 1973, she moved to Ava, Missouri, where she was employed as a nurses’ aide. After the death of her second husband, Redick Cartwright, on November 4, 1982, she returned to Aurora, Nebraska, and worked in Memorial Community Care at the Memorial Hospital. In 1989, she retired and moved to her present home in Grand Island. She was preceded in death by her parents, husbands, one brother Stanley; four sisters, Mayme Nelson, Ruth Peterson, Eileen Morrison and an infant sister Dorothy. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son Joe Sigona and his wife Louise of Aurora; her daughter Carole Etherton and her husband Jim of Doniphan; one brother Irving Nelson and his wife Marian of Aurora; 4 granddaughters, Dee Headley and husband Chuck, Lisa Katzberg and husband Greg, Mistine Mizerak and husband Jeff, and Chera Sigona-Grant and husband Travis; 6 great grandchildren, Reece and Blake Headley, Victoria and Alexis Katzbert, Madison Mizerak, and Chyna Grant, and a special friend Ray Clark of Grand Island. |
