Elizabeth Cass

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, December 14, 1996 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Elizabeth Cass

Elizabeth E. Cass, the daughter of John Robert and Mable (Beebe) Easley, was born at Alexandria, Nebraska, on January 31, 1903, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on December 12, 1996, at the age of 93 years, 10 months, and 11 days.

As a small child the family moved to Sutton, Nebraska, where she attended Sutton Schools and graduated in 1921. She then attended and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln. She taught in the Sutton Schools and later taught in the schools at Ord, Nebraska.

On August 14, 1932, she was united in marriage to Wilbur Cass, at Sutton, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on October 27, 1989. They made their home at Ord, and later lived at Arcadia and Sutton, where Wilbur was superintendent of schools.

In 1942, he left the teaching profession and began working for the U.S. Navy Department. They lived briefly at Hastings, then Norfolk, Virginia. He was later transferred to Washington, D.C. and they lived in Chevy Chase, Maryland. In 1968, they retired and moved to Florida, and in 1980, they moved to Grand Island.

Elizabeth was a member of the Grand Island Trinity United Methodist Church, and belonged to the ladies organizations. She was also a member of the P.E.O. Sisterhood for 63 years, was a member of the Grand Island Woman’s Club, and the O.E.S. at Hastings. For many years she was active in the American Association of University Women.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, one brother John and his wife Esther.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are a niece Phyllis Raabe of Berkley, California; a nephew Robert Easley of Williamsburg, Virginia, and a cousin Daryl Easley of Alexandria, Nebraska.
