Vivian Casteel

Funeral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Monday, August 10, 1992 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Vivian Casteel

Vivian Caroline Casteel, the daughter of Levi and Susie (Irelan) Humrich, was born at Wilcox, Nebraska, on July 19, 1908, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on August 5, 1992, at the age of 84 years and 16 days.

She was the fifth of eight children born to her parents. When she was about one year old the family moved to Aurora, where she attended Aurora Public Schools. She lived most of her life in Aurora, however, she did spend short periods of time in Oxford, Grand Island, Central City, and in the Ozark Mountains near Bentonville, Arkansas.

In 1927, she was married to Arthur Moser of Oxford, Nebraska. They had one son, Arthur E. (Gene) Moser. On June 19, 1938, she was united in marriage to Josie Clair “Fat” Casteel, at Fairbury, Nebraska. He preceded her in death on October 30, 1964.

Vivian’s employment included work for the Omaha Cold Storage Company’s poultry and egg processing plant in Central City, and she also drove a bus to transport ladies from Aurora to work at the Central City plant. She also worked in York at a poultry processing plant, and she worked at the Quaker Oats Ordinance Plant in Grand Island. This employment was during and immediately following World War II. She and her husband J.C. Casteel, also owned and operated a Cream Station on “K” Street in Aurora, and they also owned and operated the Casteel Cabin Camp in Aurora, which was located where Crossroads Court now stands.

She was a lifetime member of the Aurora United Brethern and United Methodist Church, and was a member of the Deborah Circle and the Amaranth Sunday School Class.

Vivian moved into the Crossroads Court in Aurora, in 1974, and in 1990, she became a resident of the Bethesda Care Center in Aurora.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband J.C. Casteel; 2 brothers and 5 sisters.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her son Gene Moser and his wife Esther of Cheyenne, Wyoming; a sister Margaret Potter and her husband Norris of Grand Island; a sister-in-law Alma Humrich of Scottsbluff; 3 granddaughters, Mrs. Diane Jorgensen and her husband Clifford of Alma, Mrs. Rhonda Stowe and her husband Michael of Broomfield, Colorado, and Mrs. Angela Sitzman and her husband Scott of The Colony, Texas; 7 great grandchildren, Brent, Cody, and Renae Jorgensen; Jeremy and Joshua Stowe; and Mallory and Nathan Sitzman; and many other relatives, friends, and neighbors, who she loved very much.
