Funeral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Monday, November 27, 1989 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Stockham Cemetery.

OBITUARY: Gladys Chaffee

Gladys Beatrice Chaffee, the daughter of Henry and Emma (Hiner) Collinson, was born at Hampton, Nebraska, on January 23, 1893, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on November 24, 1989, at the age of 96 years, 10 months, and 1 day.

She grew up and graduated from Hampton High School, and then taught rural school near Hampton and in Custer County.

On January 26, 1916, she was united in marriage to Roy Chaffee, at York, Nebraska. They established their first home near Henderson where they remained for one year. Then they moved to Roy’s brothers farm north of Stockham, living there until 1931, when they moved to the home place following the death of Roy’s mother. After Roy’s death on March 29, 1946, she moved into Stockham, where she operated the Hamilton Telephone Company in Stockham. In 1953, she moved to Aurora, and worked at the telephone office for a time. Recenlty, she has resided at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Gladys is survived by her foster son Hugh Norris and his wife Dorothy, who reside on the family farm at Stockham; 2 sisters, Esther Somer of Broken Bow and Eunice Colvin of West Plains, Missouri and nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 3 brothers and 5 sisters.
