Donal Chaney

Funeral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Wednesday, September 10, 1996 at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Kronborg. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery in Phillips, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Donal Chaney

Donal W. Chaney, the son of Edwin and Emma (Douglas) Chaney, was born on a farm near Giltner, Nebraska, on December 30, 1914, and died at Hastings, Nebraska, on September 8, 1996, at the age of 81 years, 8 months, and 8 days.

He grew up on a farm near Giltner, attended Douglas Country School, and graduated from Giltner High School. Following graduation, he worked as a mechanic at Meyer’s Service Station in Giltner.

On October 13, 1934, he was united in marriage to Eileen Maw at Grand Island.

Don was an engineer, and had his name on 11 patents. They lived in Bowling Green, Ohio, where he was a welder, and drafting engineer; Galion, Ohio, Cambridge City, Indiana, and Newark, Ohio, where he was Chief Engineer, and Plymouth, Ohio, where he was Director of Engineering.

Don was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church at Kronborg, and had served as church council member at several different churches. He was also a member of the Masonic Lodge, belonged to the Scottish Rite, and was a member of the National Truck Equipment Association.

On May 1, 1992, he received the Good Neighbor Award. He enjoyed golf, bowling, wood working and mechanics.

He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Robrt, Earl, Arnold and Allen.

Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Eileen of Aurora; one daughter Nancy Callis of Spring, Texas; one brother Roy of Giltner; 2 sisters, Lois McCarty and Leta Bitterman, both of Tucson, Arizona; 6 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and 1 great great grandchild.
