Roy ChaneyFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, September 19, 1998 at the Giltner United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery. OBITUARY: Roy Chaney Roy Douglas Chaney, the son of Edwin and Emma (Douglas) Chaney, was born at Giltner, Nebraska, on February 22, 1921, and died near Rawlins, Wyoming, on September 13, 1998, at the age of 77 years, 6 months, and 21 days. He grew up and received his education at Giltner, and graduated from Giltner High School in 1938. Following graduation he worked on the family farm, and later worked on a dairy farm in Ohio. On June 14, 1940, he was united in marriage to Dorothy Ruebsamen, at Harvard, Nebraska. They farmed in Ohio, and he attended welding school. He worked at a ship yard in Loraine Ohio, and welded for Sun Oil Company. In 1944, the family moved back to Giltner, and her served in the U.S. Navy from March 1, 1945, until his discharge on April 16, 1946. After his discharge he farmed in Clay County and operated a Grade A Dairy. In 1953, he began trucking over the road to California. In 1958, they moved back to Giltner and he trucked from California to Minnesota and Wisconsin for 45 years. He was a Charter member of the Harvard V.F.W. Post #5539, and was a life time member of the post. He was also a member of the Doniphan American Legion. He was preceded in death by his parents, 5 brothers, Robert, Earl, Arnold, Allen and Donal. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothy of Giltner; one son Edwin R. of Giltner; two daughters, Rosalie Chaney of Giltner, and Beverly Chaney of Omaha; two sisters, Lois McCarty and Leta Bitterman, both of Tuscon, Arizona; and two grandchildren. |
