Roy Christensen, age 77, of Aurora, died May 22, 1993 at his home in Aurora. Inurnment was held at St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery in Kronborg, Nebraska.

OBITUARY: Roy Thyge Christensen

Roy Thyge Christensen, the son of Nels and Mattie (Hansen) Christensen, was born near Marquette, Nebraska, on March 27, 1916, and passed away at his home in Aurora, Nebraska, on Saturday, May 22, 1993, at the age of 77 years, 1 month, and 25 days.

Roy grew up in the Hordville area, where he attended school and farmed with his parents until he was united in marriage to Edna Marna Hansen of Marquette, August 4, 1937. To this union 2 daughters, Justine Mattie and Nadine Edna were born. They lived on a farm east of Kronborg. Roy was baptized and confirmed in the St. John’s Lutheran Church of Kronborg.

Roy was known to be a man of his word. He had a circle of admirers of his strength and knowledge and love.

During the depression he worked at the Cornhusker Ammunition Plant in Grand Island. Later he became involved in selling real estate and insurance. In 1953, they moved to Grand Island, in 1955, he bought a café and service station in Chapman, where the family all took part in working the business. In 1956, the family was enroute to Alaska and stopped in Seattle, Washington, he became employed with the Boeing Aircraft Company for 20 years. They did visit Alaska 15 times.

In 1976 he retired and moved to California to sunshine and good walking and biking weather. There Roy and Edna enjoyed their retirement with square dancing and competitive shuffle board playing. He was a good sport as he played for fun and enjoyed talking and meeting his competitors and friends. Card playing was a full evening of enjoyment.

Roy is survived by his devoted wife Edna of Aurora, 2 lovely daughters that he taught how to love people and face the world. Justine Mattie, her husband Fred Fowler, Nadine Edna, her husband Bruce Byers, all of Washington. Two grandchildren, Paul B. Byers of San Jose, California, Karna Ann and her husband Joe Falanga of Anchorage, Alaska, one sister Olga and her husband Gordon Bigger of Aurora, sister-in-law Agnes Nielsen of Aurora, brother and sister-in-law Gus and Edna Hansen of Marquette, Arnold and Phylis Hansen of Alma, sister-in-law Esther Bradley of Eugene, Oregon, and a host of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Edwin and Axel Christensen and one sister Helen Jensen.
