OBITUARY: Avis Christiansen

Avis Elizabeth Christiansen, the daughter of Andrew and Elizabeth (Rowe) Hunter, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska, on July 11, 1902, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on May 17, 1992, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 6 days.

She grew up near Aurora and graduated from Aurora High School and Hastings College, and did post-graduate work at Kearney and Chicago. She taught school at Fremont before her marriage.

On June 10, 1940, she was united in marriage to Meinhardt Christiansen, at Omaha. She continued to teach school at Decatur, Phillips, and Thurston, all in Nebraska. Later, they farmed in Hamilton County, south of Aurora for several years before moving near Phillips, where they farmed. For the past several years she has resided at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Avis was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her husband, Meinhardt of St. Edward; 2 sons, John of Boston, Massachusetts and Martin of Lexington; and 3 grandchildren.
