Helen Colburn

Helen Colburn, age 94, of Giltner, died Monday, August 30, 2010, at the Hamilton Manor in Aurora.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Thursday, September 2nd at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Giltner. Fr. Dennis Hunt will officiate. Interment will be at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Giltner. Visitation will from 5 - 7 P.M. on Wednesday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, with the Rosary at 7 P.M. OBITUARY: HELEN COLBURN

Helen Margaret Colburn, the daughter of Emanuel and Clara (Warner) Preissler, was born at rural Harvard, Nebraska on March 15, 1916 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on August 30, 2010, at the age of 94.

Helen graduated from Harvard High School and attended college for year, before going on to teach school for a year.

On August 5, 1937, she was married to Fay Colburn at Harvard, Nebraska. After their marriage they moved southeast of Giltner, where they farmed for 5 years and then they moved to a farm south of Giltner where they resided until retiring in 1976. Fay passed away on February 18, 1986. Helen has resided at the Hamilton Manor for the past year.

Helen was a member of St. Joseph’s Catholic Church and Altar Society in Giltner. She was also a member of the Knights of Columbus in Hastings, the Eagles Club and The Liederkranz in Grand Island, the Greenwood Club and the Birthday Club. Helen was a member of the Early Risers Bowling League for many years. She enjoyed sewing, crocheting, working with flowers, traveling and playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, four brothers, Tony, Al, Leo and Joe Preissler; sister, Marie Cliff; daughter-in-law, Kathy Colburn; sons-in-law, Robert Wermeskerch and Leonard Most, Jr. and great-grandchild, Joseph Wiezorick.

Those left to cherish her memory are her six children, Lawrence (Esther) Colburn of Giltner, Elizabeth Most of Giltner, Margaret Wermeskerch of Hastings, Roger (Nancy) Colburn of Campbell, Kenneth (Ann) Colburn of Giltner and Teresa (Rodney) White of Giltner; 23 grandchildren and 40 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, James Preissler of Harvard and many nieces and nephews.
