Nellie Davies

Nellie Davies, age 79, of Aurora died Saturday, May 26, 2001, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora.

Funeral services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Wednesday at the Presbyterian United Church of Christ in Aurora. Rev. Mary McQueen will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M., Tuesday at Higby Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: NELLIE DAVIES

Nellie Birdene Davies, the daughter of William and Nellie (Snyder) Silvernail, was born in Phillips, Nebraska on June 28, 1921 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on May 26, 2001, at the age of 79 years.

Nellie and her family moved to Aurora when she was four years old. She graduated from Aurora High School in 1939. After graduation, Nellie worked for the Hamilton County Farmers Telephone Association, as an operator and then as assistant chief operator. She later worked as an assistant bookkeeper and clerk.

Nellie was united in marriage to Lyle C. Davies on December 1, 1945. They moved to the family farm south of Aurora until they retired and moved into town in May 1980. Lyle passed away on August 1, 2000.

Nellie was a member of the Presbyterian U.C.C. and the American Legion Auxiliary. Her hobbies were collecting figurines, cookbooks and recipes. Nellie enjoyed playing cards.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband and three sisters, Mabel Carnes, Olive Silvernail and Eulalia Hiatt.

Nellie is survived by her two daughters, Charlotte (Ralph) Smith of London, Kentucky and Judy (Terry) Wendt of Omaha; 3 grandchildren, Christopher (Wendy) Wendt of Omaha and Suzie (Jimmy) Karnik of Omaha and Brandy (Marc) Mayfield of Hamilton, Ohio.
