Eugene Derr

Eugene Derr, age 79, of Giltner, died Thursday, April 24, 2008, at Memorial Community Care in Aurora.

Memorial Service will be held 1:00 P.M., Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Stockham Community Church. Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Inurnment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. There will be no Visitation. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at www.higbymortuary.com. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the family.

OBITUARY: EUGENE DERR

Eugene Elmer Derr, the son of Elmer and Agnes (Salmon) Derr, was born east of Giltner, Nebraska on November 2, 1928 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 24, 2008, at the age of 79.

Eugene grew up on a farm near Giltner and graduated from Giltner High School in 1946.

Eugene was united in marriage to Betty West on January 21, 1947 at Smith Center, Kansas. Following their marriage they moved to Aurora where Eugene worked at the Farmers Union Creamery until it closed in 1968. In 1969 they moved to Giltner where Eugene worked at Chief Industries in Grand Island until his retirement. They moved back to Aurora in 2002.

Eugene enjoyed camping, traveling to Texas during the winter with his wife and spending time with his family.

He was preceded in death by his father, great-granddaughter Natoya Burns and brother-in-law John Seymour.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Betty of Aurora; mother, Agnes Derr of Grand Island; sons, Bill Derr of Chapman and Jeff Derr of Grand Island; daughters, Marcia Strasheim of St. Paul and Connie (Terry) Bird of Giltner; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter; brother Robert (Norma) Derr of Wood River and two sisters, Nadean Seymour of Grand Island and Lynda (Terry) Garver of Hastings.
