Donald Detamore
Donald D. Detamore, age 88, of Giltner died Thursday, October 28, 2004, at Beverly Healthcare in Grand Island. Funeral Services will be held at 10:00 A.M., Monday at United Methodist Church in Giltner. Rev. Nora Mendyk will officiate. Interment will be in the Giltner Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: DONALD D. DETAMORE Donald D. Detamore, the son of Oscar and Rosa M. (Sailor) Detamore, was born in Giltner, Nebraska on February 19, 1916 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on October 28, 2004, at the age of 88. He grew up in Giltner and attended Giltner High School. Donald farmed all of his life beginning at the age of 16 when his father passed away. Don did custom work in the local area along with corn shelling and silage cutting. He developed farm land and was one of the pioneers in irrigation in the area. He continued to be active in the community even after he retired at the age of 62. Donald was united in marriage to Evelyn E. Bye on April 26, 1939, at Modesto, California. They enjoyed many trips in their campers traveling throughout the United States and Canada as they belonged to several camping clubs. Evelyn passed away on December 22, 1999. Donald was very proud of his only son Frank, and his wish was for Frank to take over the farms. Sherry, his daughter-in-law, was very special to him and they enjoyed many trips to town. Donald was especially close to his niece Betty Ranard and her husband Bob. They had fun talking about old times as well as enjoying many meals together. They were always there for Donald. Donald was a member of the United Methodist Church in Giltner. Donald was a 4-H leader. He belonged to the Foresters of Giltner, the Golden Trailblazers of Grand Island, the Happy Wonder of Grand Island, and the Swinging I-Landers. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Evelyn, a brother, William, a sister, Bessie Hunnicutt, and a granddaughter, Tonya Burns. Those left to cherish his memory are his son Frank and his wife Sherry of Giltner, three grandchildren, Terra Hinrichs of Giltner, Tracey Katzberg of Hastings and Travis Detamore of Doniphan; great grandchildren, Jordan Burns, Sierra Hinrichs, Benjamin Hinrichs, Josh Hinrichs, Madison Detamore and Blake Detamore; three step grandchildren, Tony Jones of England and Steven (Heather) Jones of Grand Forks, ND and Jessica Jones of Lincoln; two step great grandchildren, Lincoln and Cameron Jones of Grand Forks, North Dakota. He is also survived by two very special people in his life, Raymond Bye of Oakdale, California and Clarence Bye of Fountain Valley and numerous nieces and nephews. Don also included Jamie Burns, who was married to his deceased granddaughter Tonya, as his grandson. |
