Louise DjernesFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Monday, August 31, 1987 at St. John’s Lutheran Church at Kronborg. Interment was held in the St. John’s Lutheran Cemetery. OBITUARY: Louise Djernes Louise Christina Djernes, the daughter of Anton and Karen (Hemmingsen) Djernes, was born near Marquette, Nebraska, on September 12, 1915, and passed away at Grand Island, Nebraska, on August 27, 1987, at the age of 71 years, 11 months, and 15 days. When she was 2 years old, she contracted polio, which left her crippled for the rest of her life, however, she was still able to maintain perfect attendance at school for 9 years, and graduated valedictorian of her class. After graduation she attended the Van Zant school of Business in Omaha, and graduated with a business degree. She worked as an executive secretary at the United Way of Omaha from 1940 to 1970, and then worked for the United Way of Northern Nevada of Reno from 1970 to 1984, when she retired and moved to Grand Island, where she has since resided. Louise was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Faith at Kronborg. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Agnes McHargue. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her brother, Carl Djernes of Grand Island, her sister Dora Hamilton of West Lake Village, California; 2 nieces Mrs. Sandra Nelson of California and Mrs. Marilyn Alexander of Norfolk and several cousins, other relatives, co-workers and friends. |
