OBITUARY: Faye Douglas

Martha Faye Douglas, the daughter of William and Winifred (Wilson) Anderson, was born at Burwell, Nebraska, on October 20, 1906, and died at Aurora, Nebraska, on August 11, 1992, at the age of 85 years, 9 months, and 11 days. She was the last of seven children.

She grew up in Burwell, and graduated from Burwell High School.

On June 3, 1924, she was united in marriage to William (Bill) Douglas, at Burwell. He preceded her in death on March 27, 1976.

After their marriage they operated the Kildow Market in North Loup, until they moved to Aurora in 1928, where they operated grocery stores, and in 1934, they opened the Douglas Grocery and Market. In their early years Faye and Bill flew, and she learned to fly and land a plane, later she became an avid bridge player. After Bill was paralyzed from an accident, she cared for him at home for seven and a half years, until his death.

Faye was a member of the Aurora Presbyterian United Church of Christ, and sang in the church choir for many years. She was also past president of Chapter A of P.E.O. sisterhood.

The family home was always open to relatives and friends, and there was always room for one more at the table, where many good times were shared.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, 4 brothers, Ray, Cecel, Carl, and Dutch; and 2 sisters, Elsie Phillips and Rozella Graber.

Those who remain to cherish her memory are her daughter, Virginia Coleman and her husband Bob, of Spartanburg, South Carolina; 3 grandsons and 2 great grandchildren.
