Elmer EastmanFuneral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Friday, May 29, 1987 at Higby Mortuary. Interment was held in the Cedar View Cemetery in Doniphan, Nebraska. OBITUARY: Elmer Eastman Joseph Elmer Eastman, the son of Ernest and Sarah (JeNettie (Boroff) Eastman, was born at Doniphan, Nebraska, on March 31, 1900, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on May 26, 1987, at the age of 87 years, 1 month, and 25 days. As a young man Elmer worked as a farm hand. He loved to play pool and was so good at the game he had a hard time getting any opponents. He met and married Mabel West on March 6, 1926, at Grand Island. They lived in and around Doniphan until they settled in Giltner in the early 1940’s. Before his retirement Elmer was well known by all as the farm tank wagon driver at the filling station in Giltner, and as a school bus driver for several years. After his retirement he and his wife remodeled their house, enjoyed going fishing and just driving around the country. He was preceded in death by his parents, an infant daughter, Elaine Ann, a brother John, and a sister Jennie Thayer. Elmer is survived by his wife Mabel; 3 sons, Vern, Deryle, and Dennis, all of Giltner; 5 daughters, Irene Rynearson of Ansley, June Frederiksen of Grand Island, Karen Burns of Giltner, Eloise Reid of Hastings, and Erma Luth of Aurora; 4 sisters, JeNetta Anderson of Phoenix, Arizona, Floy Campbell and Pauline Wittlake, both of Boise, Idaho, and Bonnie Johnson of Aurora. 40 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren, and 1 great-great grandchild, and many other relatives and friends. Elmer loved his family and they all loved him and will greatly miss him. |
