Irving Elge
Irving Elge, age 73, of Aurora, died Sunday, January 7, 2001, at his home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Wednesday at Monroe Evangelical Free Church north of Murphy. Rev. Mark Dunham will officiate. Interment will be in Monroe Evangelical Free Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 P.M., Tuesday at Higby Mortuary. OBITUARY: IRVING ELGE Irving Oscar Elge, the son of Frans Oscar and Esther Sabina (Gustafson) Elge, was born in Hamilton County, Nebraska on April 25, 1927 and died at home in Aurora, Nebraska on January 7, 2001, at the age of 73 years, 8 months and 12 days. Irving grew up in Hamilton County and graduated from Aurora High School in 1947. After graduation he farmed with his father. He rode his Harley through snow to California in the fall of '47 and worked during the winter months as a sheetmetal former and trimmer on the P2V2 Naval Airplane for Lockheed Aircraft Company. In December 1950 he was drafted during the Korean War and served at the Rocky Mountain Arsenal in Denver. He was trained in Truck Mechanics and later served at the Atomic Proving Flats in Mercury, Nevada where he assisted with the testing of Atomic Bombs. He returned to farming in 1952. Irving was united in marriage to Georgene May Risden on June 4, 1954 at the Monroe Evangelical Free Church near Phillips. Irving attended Monroe Evangelical Free Church his entire life and has been active in the Men's Chorus, Trustee Board and Trustee Chairman and also served as the Church Treasurer. Irving had the opportunity to travel to Haiti to help drill water wells in the late 80's with Water for Life Missions. He served on the extension board and as a 4H leader. These positions were fulfilling to Irving but his ultimate fulfillment came from his personal relationship with the Lord and he boldly set an example for his children and grandchildren in his daily walk with Jesus Christ. Irving had many passions in life. He took flying lessons. He enjoyed repairing, racing, and hill climbing on Harley Davidson motorcycles. He started a custom hay bailing business. He loved farming and the blessings that come from tilling the earth. At age 49 he took up snow skiing which he enjoyed until age 65. He loved to move dirt to level farms. He enjoyed repairing and improving equipment, keeping up with the everchanging field of farming. He loved to study his Bible, go to Church and pray. Irving was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Cecile. Survivors include his wife, Georgene; four sons, Dennis and his wife Kelly, Kevin and his wife Julie, Terry and his wife Kelly all of rural Aurora and Bruce of Fremont, California; 11 grandchildren, Lucy and Levi Elge, Casey Svitak, Justin, David, Kristin and Jennifer Elge, Meagan, Shelby, Isaac and Jaydon Elge. He is also survived by three sisters, Mrs. Francis Glad, Mrs. Anna Marie (Carl) Moore, Mrs. Lois (Dwight) Paschke. |
