John FaberFuneral Services were held 2:00 P.M., Saturday, November 7, 1992 at the Hampton United Lutheran Church. Interment was held in the Hampton Cemetery. OBITUARY: John Faber John Faber, the son of William and Caroline (Parezik) Faber, was born at Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on January 17, 1900, and died at the Nebraska Veteran’s Home in Grand Island, Nebraska, on November 5, 1992, at the age of 92 years, 9 months, and 18 days. He grew up and attended school in Aurora, Nebraska. On May 21, 1923, he was united in marriage to Dorothea Redhead, at York, Nebraska. After their marriage he worked for John and Chris Wall as a mechanic, and worked in Newman Hardware Store, and later he owned and operated Faber Sales and Service in Hampton, retiring in 1956. They entered the Nebraska Veterans Home in August of 1987. He served his country in the United States Army during World War I as a truck driver in France and Germany from July 1, 1918, until the armistice in 1919. He was the last World War I survivor in Hamilton County. John was a member of the Emmanuel Lutheran Church of Hampton, and later was a member of the Hampton United Lutheran Church, and served on the church council. He was also a charter member of the Hampton Masonic Lodge, and had received his 60-year pin. He was a charter member of the Hampton American Legion Post #141, and was recently honored as a 70-year member. He had also served on the Hampton School Board and the Town Council for a number of years. In the 1920’s he was a pitcher for the Aurora Baseball Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, and stepfather James Tryner; one daughter, Jacquelyn; one brother William, 2 sisters, Agnes George, and Amelia Calkins; 2 stepbrothers James and Henry Tryner; and one stepsister Helen Tryner. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Dorothea of Grand Island; his daughter, Shirley Larsen and her husband Laurel of Hampton; 2 granddaughters, Marcia Fick of Ashland and Marla Ortegren of Hordville, and 6 great grandchildren. |
