John FloreaFuneral Services were held 10:00 A.M., Saturday, March 21, 1998 at the Aurora First Christian Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: John Florea John R. Florea, the son of John William and Elnora (Killam) Florea, was born near Hopkins, Missouri, on February 11, 1903, and died at Aurora, Nebraska on March 17, 1998 at the age of 95 years, 1 month, and 6 days. He grew up and received his education near Hopkins. His mother died when he was six years old, and the family was separated and placed with other families. He stayed with neighbors and worked as a farm hand in the area. Following a short stint in the Army, he and a friend came to Aurora in 1923, where his brother Fred was living. He gained employment on the Fred Splinter farm, where he met his future wife. On December 15, 1925, he was united in marriage to Imogene Splinter at Aurora. They began farming in Hamilton County. In 1972, they moved into Aurora. He continued farming for one more year, and then his son Ron took over the farming operation. In November of 1996, they moved into the Hamilton Manor in Aurora. John was a long time member of the Aurora First Christian Church, where he served as a Deacon and Elder and Sunday School teacher for many years. He had also served on the District 4-R School Board, was a Hamilton County commissioner for 12 years, was a long time board member of the Aurora Co-op elevator, had been active in the Aurora Lions Club and served one term as District Governor. He served on the Aurora zoning board from 1972 until 1992. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, and 5 sisters. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Imogene of Aurora; one son Ronald and his wife Leslie of Hampton, and one daughter Dorothy Bish and her husband Bill of West Point; 7 grandchildren, and 7 great grandchildren. |
