Irene Furse
Irene Furse, age 92, of Aurora, died Thursday, April 12, 2001 at Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Monday at the Presbyterian U.C.C. in Aurora. Rev. Monty Nelson will officiate. Burial will be at the Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 P.M., Sunday at Higby Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: IRENE FURSE Irene L. Furse, the daughter of Walter H. and Mildred (King) Polley, was born in Republic, Kansas on January 19, 1909 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 12, 2001, at the age of 92 years. She grew up in Republic, Kansas and graduated from high school there. After high school, Irene worked at the local drug store and at her father's grocery store. Irene was united in marriage to Ronald R. Furse on June 27, 1936 at Omaha, Nebraska. Irene assisted her husband in newspaper operations in Republic, Kansas, Clay Center, Sutton and Plattsmouth before moving to Aurora in 1965, where her husband was co-publisher of the Aurora News-Register with their son, R.L. (Butch). Her husband R.R. Furse died on March 7, 1972. Irene was a member of the Presbyterian U.C.C. and Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. She also belonged to the Aurora Women's Club, where she was past president, and Aurora Chapter #93, Order of Eastern Star, where she was a 50 year member, and the Daughter of Nile. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and grandson Brent Furse. Irene is survived by her son, R.L. (Butch) Furse and his wife Nancy of Aurora; grandsons, Mike Furse and his wife Dawn of White Bluff, Tennessee and B. Jay Furse and his wife Heather of Austin, Texas; great-grandsons, Christopher and Thomas Furse and their mother, Cheryl Furse of Grand Island; sister, Agnes Kjome of Decorah, Iowa and several nieces and nephews. |
