Anne Garrett

Anne Garrett, age 56, of Polk, died Saturday, April 10, 2010, at St. Elizabeth Regional Medical Center in Lincoln.

Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. Wednesday, April 14th at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. Fr. Dennis Hunt will officiate. Interment will be at the Hordville Cemetery at 2:30 P.M. Visitation will be from 5 - 7 P.M. on Tuesday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, with the Rosary at 7 P.M. Higby-McQuiston Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. OBITUARY: ANNE GARRETT

Anne Louise Garrett, the daughter of Daniel J. and Carole L. (Denney) Armbruster, was born at Chanute Air Force Base Rantoul, Illinois on March 17, 1954 and died in Lincoln, Nebraska on April 10, 2010, at the age of 56.

Anne grew up in Osceola, before the family moved to Aurora, where she graduated from Aurora High School in 1972. She received her degree from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln in 1976, and began her teaching career.

On July 22, 1978, she was married to Michael Garrett at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Aurora. She took time off from teaching to raise their four children. Anne returned to teaching in the late 1980’s. She taught first at Hordville Public Schools, then Columbus Public Schools for a year, before returning to Hordville. Anne remained at Hordville during the consolidation to Hordville/Polk/Clarks School District.

Anne was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and Altar Society. She taught C.C.D. for many years. She was a member of the Chi Omega Sorority. Anne served on the County Extension Board for several years. She was an avid reader, enjoyed to play golf and loved seeing her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her father.

Those left to cherish her memory are her husband, Michael of Polk; four children, Ben (Miranda) Garrett of Fremont, Chad (Michaela) Garrett of Aurora, John Garrett and Lisa Kempt of Hordville and Erin (Brett) Sorensen of Kansas City, Missouri; 4 grandchildren, Mira Garrett, Cash Garrett and Elizabeth and Jade Sorensen; mother, Carole Armbruster of Aurora; two sisters, Sarah (Doug) Weedin of Cody, Wyoming and Mary (Chuck) Olsen of Commerce Township, Michigan; brother, David (Julie) Armbruster of Grand Junction, Colorado; grandmother, LaVern Denney of Stanton and many nieces, nephews and friends.
