Alvena Tuepker Garrido

Alvena Tuepker Garrido, age 80, of Kearney, died Friday, July 6, 2006, at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Funeral Services will be held 10:30 A.M. Monday, July 9th at the Higby-McQuiston Chapel in Aurora. Rev. Jim Corson will officiate. Interment will be in Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 P.M. to 7 P.M. Sunday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com.

OBITUARY: ALVENA (TUEPKER) GARRIDO

Alvena Laurine Tuepker Garrido, the daughter of Henry and Mabel (Mideke) Tuepker, was born in Aurora, Nebraska on September 15, 1926 and died in Kearney, Nebraska on July 6, 2007, at the age of 80.

She grew up on a farm near Aurora and attended School District 19 through the 8th grade. Alvena graduated from Aurora High School in 1944 and taught in rural schools and later in Aurora. She was a graduate of Kearney State Teachers College. Alvena enlisted in the U.S. Force in July 1958 and was honorably discharged July 1, 1961.

On October 1, 1959 she married Jose Garrido in Washington. One son was born to this union. She worked in the media centers for the Kearney Public Schools. In 1976, Alvena went on to teach both day and evening G.E.D. classes at the Central Community College Kearney Campus. She also taught classes at the Kearney Jail.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Those left to cherish her memory are her son, Kenneth (Candy) Garrido of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; grandson, Joey Garrido of Harleysville, Pennsylvania; two sisters, Phyllis (Clem) Willuweit of Kearney and Shirley Dyson of National City, California and numerous nieces and nephews.
