Edmond George
Edmond George, age 84, of Hampton, died Sunday, June 6, 2004, at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, June 8th at St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Rev. George Damm will officiate. Interment will be in the Salem Cemetery near Hampton. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. Condolences may be e-mailed to the family through the mortuary website at higbymortuary.com. OBITUARY: EDMOND GEORGE Edmond E. George, the son of J. C. and Elizabeth (Nicholaus) George, was born on the family farm near Hampton, Nebraska on October 11, 1919 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on June 6, 2004, at the age of 84. His early years were spent in the Hampton area, where he attended country school and graduated from Hampton High School. Edmond then farmed with his father. On June 4, 1944, he was united in marriage to Ruth Troester at Salem Lutheran Church near Hampton. They lived on his parents' farm for four years before moving to their farm in 1948. Edmond was active on the farm until several years ago, when he retired. They just celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary. Edmond was a member of St. Peter Lutheran Church, where he served as head usher for many years. He served on the Farmers Union Board for many years, taking his father's place on the board. Edmond also served on the Hampton Co-op Board and the St. Peter's Lutheran School Board. Edmond, B.N. Greenberg and Hans Jensen were instrumental in getting research started on controlling rootworm at the University of Nebraska at Lincoln. He loved telling stories with family and friends. He loved a good joke and he loved to laugh. He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers Willis and Elmer, and four sisters, Esther Hahle, Frances Harter, Mildred Traudt and Ruth Wert. Those left to cherish his memory are his wife, Ruth of Hampton; son, Art (Carole) George of Hampton; three daughters, Kathryn George of Hampton, Evelyn (Merlin) Ericksen of Hordville and Joyce George and fiancée DeLayne Peck both of Lincoln; 11 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, Lisa George, Adriana George, Lindsey Pohlmeier and her husband Darrell and their son, Ryken, Nicole Heiden and her son Bailey, Andy Heiden, Jacob Ericksen and his wife Kara, Levi Ericksen, Natalie Ericksen, Patrick Hamburger, Mike Hamburger and Chris Hamburger. |
