OBITUARY: Archie Gerdes

Archie LaVerne Gerdes, the son of Herman and Pearl (Smith) Gerdes, was born at Benkleman, Nebraska, on May 8, 1920, and passed away at Aurora, Nebraska, on December 14, 1988, at the age of 68 years, 7 months and 6 days.

He received his education in the Benkleman Public Schools, and for 40 years he was a truck driver.

On December 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Josephine (Braun) Nelson at Seward, Nebraska. After their marriage they resided in Aurora.

He attended the United Methodist Church in Aurora.

Archie was preceded in death by his parents; 3 brothers, Rex, Leroy and Fred; and one sister Opal.

He is survived by his wife Josephine of Aurora; 2 sons, Gary and Steve both of Aurora; one step-son Bob Nelson of Higgins, Texas; one daughter Judy Davies of Ft. Morgan, Colorado; one step-daughter, Sharon Fonda of Houston, Texas; 2 brothers, Lee of Holdrege and Everett of Benkleman; 3 sisters, Velda Hartman of McCook, Ethel Dubbert of Loveland, Nebraska and Lenamae Sloan of Pine Bluff, Arkansas; and 4 grandchildren.
