Evelyn Gilbert

Evelyn Gilbert, age 91, of Aurora, died Friday morning, March 24, 2000, at the Memorial Long Term Care in Aurora.

Graveside Services will be 2:00 P.M. Monday, May 1, 2000 at Phillips Cemetery in Phillips, Nebraska. Memorials may be made to Memorial Long Term Care in Aurora.

OBITUARY: EVELYN GILBERT

Evelyn Grace Gilbert, the daughter of Alexander and Maude (Tucker) Gilbert, was born in Phillips, Nebraska on December 22, 1908 and died in Aurora, Nebraska on March 24, 2000, at the age of 91 years, 3 months and 2 days.

She graduated from Phillips High School in 1926. She graduated from Lutheran Hospital School of Nursing in York, Nebraska in 1930. Evelyn took post graduate courses at the Cook County School of Nursing in Chicago and the Marquette School of Nursing in Milwaukee. She was the Supervising Nurse in medical administration at the Milwaukee General Hospital for 28 years, then was involved in occupational nursing until her retirement in 1968.

Evelyn was an active member of the United Methodist Church, the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 204 and other organizations until ill health.

She was preceded in death by her parents, three brothers Floyd, Maynard and Homer, and sister, Myrtle Purdy.

Survivors include her three nieces, Avis Purdy Larson and Lucille Purdy Plank both of Grand Island and Jerre Gilbert Ihrcke of Kalamazoo, Michigan; two nephews, Maynard (Bud) Purdy of Hampton and Gene Gilbert of Gold Canyon, Arizona; great nieces and nephews and great-great nieces and nephews and cousins.
