Milton GoertzenFuneral Services were held 10:30 A.M., Thursday, June 13, 1996 at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Aurora Cemetery. OBITUARY: Milton Goertzen Milton A. Goertzen, the son of Abraham and Minnie (Friesen) Goertzen, was born near Stockham, Nebraska, on February 6, 1929, and died at Hastings, Nebraska, on June 10, 1996, at the age of 67 years, 4 months, and 4 days. He began his schooling in Henderson, where he graduated from the 8th grade, and then the family moved to Benedict, and later Aurora, where he attended schools. He worked for Johnny Reardon, and later moved to the Stockham area, where he and his father farmed and worked for Evon Traudt. Before entering the army, he worked for Mert Titman. Milt served his country during the Korean War in the United States Army, from March 11, 1953, until his discharge on March 3, 1955. He was stationed in Germany. On July 16, 1953, he was united in marriage to Erma Peters at Henderson. After their marriage he worked for Mert Titman for a year, then farmed with his father-in-law for a year, and then they rented a farm of their own. In 1968, they purchased a farm near Marquette, where he has since resided. Milt was a member of the Aurora United Methodist Church, and was a lifetime member of the Lester S. Harter Post #42, Aurora American Legion, had served as past commander, and was presently serving as treasurer, he was also a member of the Aurora V.F.W. Club Post # 4993. He was preceded in death by his parents. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Erma of Marquette; one son Kent of Lincoln, one daughter Pam Hayes of Harvard; four brothers Leo, Johnny, and Denton all of Aurora, and Everett of Polk; four sisters, Josephine Trautman of Holdrege, Liz Bicknase and Amanda Williams of Aurora, and Marlene Schmidt of Lincoln, and 4 granddaughters. |
