Evelyn Green
Evelyn Green, age 87, of Aurora died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Memorial Hospital. Funeral Services will be held at 10:30 A.M., Friday, January 16th at the Aurora United Methodist Church. Dr. F. Cole Fowler will officiate. Interment will be in the Stromsburg Cemetery at 1:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: EVELYN GREEN Evelyn Bernice Green, the daughter of Henry Joseph and Jessie Grace (Covey) Smith, was born in a sod house southwest of Stromsburg, Nebraska on October 3, 1921 and died at Aurora, Nebraska on January 13, 2009, at the age of 87. She grew up southeast of Stromsburg and attended Pleasant Prairie School. Evelyn graduated from Stromsburg High School in 1939. She taught school in York County for several years. On December 3, 1943, she was united in marriage to C. Homer Green at her parent’s home. They lived near Polk for 12 years, before moving to Stromsburg. Homer passed away on January 24, 1979, Evelyn then moved to Aurora to be closer to family. Evelyn was a member of the Aurora Methodist Church and the Marianna Circle. She enjoyed church activities and took church bulletins to rest homes for many years. Evelyn enjoyed doing volunteer work or just baking something to give to someone. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant sister, Anna Mae; two brothers, Albert and Harland J.; sister, DeEtte Brand and a granddaughter. Those who remain to cherish her memory are her three sons, Merlin (Pamela) Green of Lincoln, Roy (Delores) Green of Aurora and Wayne Green of Columbus; two grandsons, Neal Green of Moline, Illinois and Warren Green of Columbus; five sisters, Maxine Peterson of York, Ruby Paneitz of York, Mary Lou (Ardean) Kohtz of York and Emagene Quiring of Henderson and nieces and nephews. |
