Gary GriessGerhardt “Gary” Griess, age 72, of Aurora died Saturday morning, October 23, 1999, at Tabitha Hospice in Lincoln. Funeral Services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday at the Presbyterian U.C.C. Church in Aurora. Rev. Paul Nauman will officiate. Interment will be at Aurora Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 Monday at Higby Mortuary. OBITUARY: GARY GRIESS Gerhardt “Gary” Griess, the son of August and Johanna (Schwarz) Griess, was born in Stockham, Nebraska on October 1, 1927 and died in Lincoln, Nebraska on October 23, 1999, at the age of 72 years and 22 days. He grew up in the Stockham and Sutton vicinity. He went to high school in Stockham. He was united in marriage to Bernice Sweem on December 9, 1948 in Geneva, Nebraska. They farmed for three years and then Gary was drafted into the Marine Corps in 1952-54, during the Korean War he served in Japan. When he returned he worked for Wortman Motor Company and Aurora Co-op. In 1958, they moved to a farm south of town and in 1968 they bought a farm north of town. He retired from farming in 1989, but they still resided on the farm. He was a member of the Presbyterian U.C.C., V.F.W. and Legion. He had served on the Maintenance Board. His parents, one sister, Lasetta Stovall, and his beloved in-laws preceded him in death. He is survived by his wife Bernice of Aurora; one brother, Arthur M. Griess of San Bernadino, California; two sisters, Louise Sloan of Denver and Leontina Clancy of Hastings; cousins, nieces and nephews. |
