Byron GroelzFuneral Services were held 1:30 P.M., Saturday, January 18, 1986 at the Phillips United Methodist Church. Interment was held in the Phillips Cemetery. OBITUARY: Byron Groelz Byron Eugene Groelz, the son of W.P. “Billy” and Jessie Belle (Leymaster) Groelz, was born at Stockham, Nebraska, on April 12, 1917, and passed away near Trumbull, Nebraska, on January 15, 1986, at the age of 68 years, 9 months, and 3 days. He grew up in the Stockham area and attended Champ grade school. Later he attended Stockham High School and then Trumbull High School. He was a 1935 graduate of Aurora High School. He worked as a farm laborer in Iowa. On January 13, 1939, he entered the U.S. Army in South Dakota. He later was in the U.S. Air Force as a cadre man, where he was an advance man to set up bases and security, and was discharged in 1943. On November 23, 1941, he married Jeanie Carter at Giltner. They farmed until his semi-retirement. He also was involved in custom combining and trucking, and ran a repair shop near Phillips, and had customers from coast to coast. He was a member of the Nebraska Travelers Motorcycle group. Byron’s hobbies included working with antique machinery and putting on steam shows. He also enjoyed being with his family and his many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister in infancy. Those who remain to cherish his memory are his wife Jeanie; 4 sons, Philip of Oregon City, Oregon, Jay of Phillips, Ross of South Lake Tahoe, California and Ned of Phillips. Two daughters, Jane Groelz of Phillips and Jean Evans of Santaquin, Utah; four brothers, Clifton of Sacramento, California, Clifford of Prosser, Howard of San Jose, California and Boyd of Denver, Colorado and 12 grandchildren. |
