Robert Hahle

Robert Hahle, age 78, of Grand Island, died Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Lakeview Nursing Home in Grand Island.

A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 A.M., Thursday, September 25th at the Evangelical Free Church in Grand Island. Interment will be in the Hampton Cemetery at 9:00 A.M. Thursday. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary in Aurora. The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8. Memorials may be made to the Special Olympics. OBITUARY: ROBERT HAHLE

Robert Charles Hahle, the son of William and Esther (George) Hahle, was born at Hampton, Nebraska on May 8, 1930 and died in Grand Island, Nebraska on September 21, 2008, at the age of 78.

He grew up on the farm southeast of Aurora. Because of his disability he was unable to attend school. Robert was able to learn how to draw and liked to print numbers.

Robert went to live in the Beatrice State Home in 1947. He moved to Grand Island in 1972 where he had training from Mid-Nebraska Mental Retardation. This training allowed him to live with a roommate. Robert worked at Leon Plastics in Grand Island for eight years.

The Special Olympics were very special for Robert. He was able to participate in bowling, basketball and track. He enjoyed The Grand Generation Center and using the handi bus.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one sister, Illeen Dunnington and two brothers-in-law, Bob Dunnington and Lloyd Deeds

Those left to cherish his memory are his two brothers, Bill (Sondra) Hahle of McCook and Rev. Dennis (Jeanie) Hahle of Littleton, North Carolina; three sisters, Wilma Deeds of Sheridan Wyoming, Lilah (James) Smith of Grand Island and Ardis (Vernon) Arp of Boise, Idaho and many nieces and nephews.
