Marshall Hahn

Marshall Hahn, retired professor and summer basketball coach, died Tuesday, October 19, 1999, at the Cancer Care Center of Mercy Hospital in Rockville Center, New York.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 P.M., Monday afternoon at the St. Peter Lutheran Church in Hampton. Interment will be in Hampton Cemetery. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Long Island Lutheran High School Women’s Athletic Program.

OBITUARY: MARSHALL HAHN

Marshall Sterling Hahn, the son of Leo and Meta Hahn, was born in Polk, Nebraska, on June 11, 1932 and died in Rockville Center, New York on October 19, 1999 at the age of 67 years, 4 months and 8 days.

He attended St. Peter’s Lutheran Elementary School and Hampton High School. He received his Bachelors and Masters degree from the University of Nebraska at Kearney and a Ph.D. in Education from the University of Minnesota in 1969.

His educational career spanned his entire life, with high school teaching in Minden, Nebraska, and at Clemson University and New York University where he focused his skills on alternative energy resources. Dr. Hahn retired from NYU in 1990 and began an independent business as a tax grievance advisor.

He loved basketball and was a strong advocate for women’s athletics. He spent time coaching at the Wheatley Summer Leagues for Long Island Lutheran High School. He was deeply interested in the environment and the conversation of natural resources.

He is survived by his wife, Lucy, of Westbury, New York; three children, Dianne Scherryl of Minneapolis, Minnesota, Jennifer Lea of Whistler, British Columbia, and Jeffrey Marshall of Astoria, New York; brothers and sisters-in-law Howard and Arlene Hahn, Kenneth and Marilyn Hahn, Pollie Hahn of Hampton; sister Ramona Hillman of Syracuse; sister-in-law Barbara Hahn of Fort Washington, Maryland; and beloved nieces and nephews.
