Arvilla Hammer
Arvilla Hammer, age 89, of Aurora, formerly of Bloomfield, died Saturday, April 28, 2007 at Memorial Hospital in Aurora. A Service Celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, May 1st at Messiah Lutheran Church in Aurora. Rev. Sheryl Kester Beyer and Rev. Chris Kester Beyer will officiate. Interment will be in the Bloomfield Cemetery in Bloomfield, Nebraska on Wednesday May 2nd at 2:00 P.M. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 P.M. Monday at Higby-McQuiston Mortuary. OBITUARY: ARVILLA HAMMER Arvilla Mae Hammer, the daughter of Charles and Hallie (Tilton) Knudson, was born on February 28, 1918 at Bloomfield, Nebraska and died in Aurora, Nebraska on April 28, 2007, at the age of 89. She was raised in Bloomfield and graduated from Bloomfield High School. Following high school she taught school in rural Bloomfield. Arvilla was united in marriage to Lester Hammer on April 25, 1941 at Lincoln, Nebraska. To this union two daughters were born Karen and Diane. Following their marriage she was a housewife and later she taught private piano lessons. Lester passed away in September of 1991. Arvilla moved to Aurora in 1993. Arvilla was a member of St. Marks Lutheran Church in Bloomfield where she helped with the church ladies organizations. She was a member of the Extension Club in Bloomfield and the East Park Villa Red Hat Society in Aurora. She enjoyed quilting at Messiah Lutheran Church and enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and daughter Diane Lockwood. Those left to cherish her memory are her daughter Karen (John) Rogers of Aurora; son-in-law Milt Lockwood of Kearney; grandchildren Deb (Neil) Rogers-Early of Lincoln, Tammie (Rich) Burns of Lincoln, Lisa (Keith) Henning of Lincoln, Dawn Lockwood of Kearney and Michael Lockwood of Kearney and 10 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law Evelyn Hammer of Bloomfield; and nephews and other family members. |
